Over the years, our laboratory’s activities have led to the formation of several spin-off companies, all of which are incorporated in the United States.

2008 – Axion BioSystems

Prof. Rajaraman was part of the founding team of Axion, prior to his arrival at UCF.

Axion is a global leader in high-throughput Microelectrode Array (MEA) systems. Founded in 2008 to revolutionize MEA technology, Axion currently under the bandwagon of Summa Equity has a workforce of more than 150 employees worldwide. Axion’s mission is to empower scientists to reach new heights of discovery with high-quality, user-friendly lab tools that deliver powerful live-cell analysis for disease research and therapeutic discovery. Designed for continuous, noninvasive monitoring of 2D and 3D cell models in vitro from the benchtop or incubator, Axion’s user-friendly Maestro and Omni systems are indispensable tools in academic, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical labs worldwide. Axion’s high-throughput MEA products have been utilized in over 6.25 million experiments across more than 1000 research sites worldwide resulting in 800+ publications. Axion was acquired in 2021 by Swedish Private Equity, Summa Equity.

2020Primordia BioSystems Inc

Prof. Rajaraman co-founded Primordia with two of his former research staff, Dr. Frank Sommerhage and Mr. David DeRoo.

Primordia performed Engineering consulting projects for several entities for over 4 years in the areas of microelectrodes, embedded electronics, point-of-use assays, and data analysis for impedance and MEA assays.
