NanoSpective specializes in materials science with an emphasis on nanoscale materials characterization. The company, originating from UCF’s Materials Characterization Facility, provides analytical services and consultation to a worldwide market offering complete solutions for intellectual property issues, failure analysis, quality control and materials research.
The December issue of Inside Florida’s High Tech Corridor features an interview with NanoSpective’s President and CEO Brenda Prenitzer:
Education: B.S. in Chemistry and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, University of Central Florida
Inspiration: I was awestruck the moment that I first stepped into the room housing the giant transmission electron microscope used to analyze a material I was investigating as part of an undergraduate research project. UCF’s collaborative relationship with Lucent Technologies gave me the opportunity to pursue this passion in materials science/characterization, and it later founded and equipped UCF’s Materials Characterization Facility. It was the existence of this facility that enabled the origination of NanoSpective.
“A-ha” Moment: At the unfortunate time when the characterization laboratory at Lucent was being dismantled, I realized that I had tremendous resources available to initiate a materials characterization company alongside three of my colleagues. We had at our disposal a state-of-the-art facility fully equipped with instruments that would otherwise present an insurmountable barrier to entry for a characterization business.
Career Goals: I would like to lead NanoSpective through its growth into a second-stage company. Over the next five years, I would like to see sales increase tenfold and staff increase five to seven times our current headcount. It is paramount that NanoSpective remains an organization that values excellence in work product, customer support, innovation and teamwork. The key to this is to provide a workplace where the team members can find inspiration and fulfillment.
