Rikhav Shah, a high school student in Dr. Swadeshmukul Santra’s research group, won a 2nd place award at the 2013 Intel® International Science and Engineering Fair. Rikhav was recognized for his work in the Environmental Science category.
Intel® ISEF is the world’s largest international pre-college science competition featuring more than 1,500 participants. This year’s event was held May 12-17 in Phoenix.
Previously, Rikhav won a gold medal at the I-SWEEEP Olympiad on May 12 in Houston, Texas. I-SWEEEP stands for International Sustainable World Energy Engineering Environment Project. It is an international science fair held to raise awareness and encourage young minds to look for alternative solutions for a sustainable world.
Rikhav’s project, “Fluorescent Quantum Dots as a Solid-Phase Detection Medium for Heavy-Metal Contaminates in Drinking Water,” took top honors in the Senior Environment category.
