Two students from Swadeshmukul Santra’s research group won awards at conference events this week.
High school student Rikhav Shah won a gold medal at the I-SWEEEP Olympiad on May 12 in Houston, Texas. I-SWEEEP stands for International Sustainable World Energy Engineering Environment Project. It is an international science fair held to raise awareness and encourage young minds to look for alternative solutions for a sustainable world.
Rikhav’s project, “Fluorescent Quantum Dots as a Solid-Phase Detection Medium for Heavy-Metal Contaminates in Drinking Water,” took top honors in the Senior Environment category.
At the American Chemical Society’s 89th Florida Annual Meeting and Exposition, Ph.D. student Jennifer Archer won first place in the Graduate Poster Session Competition. Her poster was titled “Generation of an Antibody that Binds Initiator TRNA Via Phage Display.”
The Florida section of the American Chemical Society hosts the FAME conference to highlight chemical excellence in Florida and the Southeast.
