There is a great deal of interest in alternative fuel technologies. Fuel cells, although promising have suffered many limitations. We are currently working on finding suitable catalysts for the electrochemical oxidation of alcohols (ethanol and methanol) for their use in direct alcohol fuel cells. Nanoscale rare-earth oxide based catalysts have shown great promise to promote the oxidation of alcohols.
